Angkor: The lost city of the Khmer Empire !!!

23 & 24 May

This place is just amazing. It can be hardly described by words. You can describe it by pictures... that's what we did: the shot 1000 pictures in two days. Thanks God  today we use digital camaras and we dont need to print (and pay) all the pics before chosing the good ones for the photo album....

We also realise the sufferment and pain it can be for you to go through all the pictures once we are back (as we say, you will want to cut your veins after the 6 hours pics session in from of the TV all the family around the sofa !!!). That's why we are such nice people we have made a very short (trust us, really really short) selection of pictures. It would make sense to put then by temple and area of the city but that's too much work rigth now. Just for you to understand the place (ruins) of Angkor: it was once the capital of all south Asia empire (the Khmer Empire, around 10th century) and the place is around 30 x 30 km with plenty of ruins, fortressess, temples, universities, etc. and the most important one: Angkor Wat (which is the biggest religious estructure in the world)

We bought the guide book. Here Kinga studying it by heart

+ Have you seen Tom Raider? this is were they filmed the movie... Amazing!!! This is how the french explorers found most of Angkor but the following is the only temple which has been preserved as it was founded.

+ From here down, it is the actual Angkor Wat. We wanted to be there for the Sunrise so that it is very special and there are few tourist as we were told (and we were so naive that we really though we were going to be almost by ourselves... ). Well... so we woke up at 4 AM to be there for the special sunrise with another thousands more :) but it is really worth it.

here with our local guide: cheap cheap!!
